Darkwatch: Curse of the West is a 2005 FPS (first-person shooter) video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox console. It was developed by High Moon Studios (formerly Sammy Studios) and published by Capcom in the United States, and by Ubisoft in Europe and Australia.
The game mixes western, horror, and steampunk genres, telling the story of Jericho Cross, an outlaw gunfighter in the late 19th-century American Frontier who has been turned into a vampire by an ancient vampire Lord, Lazarus Malkoth, and then is forcibly recruited by the titular monster-hunting secret organization, the Darkwatch, to fight against supernatural forces. The gameplay system of Darkwatch is reminiscent of Halo: Combat Evolved.
Darkwatch was met with a generally positive critical reception, acclaimed in particular for its relatively unique Weird West setting and artistic merits. The game was accompanied by an extensive promotional campaign and was planned to be the first installment of a new media franchise, but its sequel got canceled in 2007 and the film adaptation remains in development hell.

Story Summary[]
Welcome to the Wild West, circa 1876. You are Jericho Cross, a seasoned outlaw. In search of serious booty, you raid a secret treasure train. Unbeknownst, to you, the train belongs to the Darkwatch, an ancient organization dedicated to defeating supernatural evils. The cargo of the train is not money or jewels, but a captured vampire lord being transported to the Darkwatch Citadel for interrogation. You blow open what you believe to be the treasure vault on the train, only to release the oldest and most powerful creature of his kind. Perhaps out of perverse gratitude, the vampire does not kill you. He just bites you, so you slowly turn into a vampire yourself!
With your supernatural powers growing, you hunt down Lazarus Malkoth, the vampire who sired you. If you gun him down before the Curse overcomes you completely, you might win back your soul. If you fail, you will be damned to walk the earth as an undead monster and you will have condemned the West to despair under the rule of evil incarnate.
